Kuldsete reriiverite erinäitus Eestis 26. juulil 2008.

Tänan, et kutsusite mind sellele suurepärasele sündmusele, mis toimus kaunis kohas ja suurepärase ilmaga, kuigi oli kuum! Päev oli nauditav ja nägin mitmeid tõesti häid kuldseid.

Õnnitlused mitmete kaunite peade ja ilmete puhul! Kuigi mitte kõik sama tüüpi, kuid pehme ja maheda ilmega, mis on kuldse retriiveri üks olulisemaid jooni. Ilme peaks alati peegeldama selle tõu mahedat ja sõbralikku iseloomu. Õnnitlused väga paljude suurepäraste, eriti nooremate koerte eest!

Jällegi väikesed tüübierinevused, kuid paljud olid suurepärases seisundis hea lihastikuga, ilma liigse rasvakihita ning liikusid rõõmasalt ja loomulikult. Üllatavam oli, et vanemate klasside (noorte, ava- ja tööklassi) koerte kvaliteet ja seisund polnud nii hea, mitmete väärtust kahandasid kasin lihastik, ülemäärane rasvapolster – vajadus suurema liikumise ja vähemate kalorite järgi. Ka 8-, 9- ja 10-aastased veteranid ei pruugi olla paksud, ilma lihasteta; mida paremas vormis nad on, seda kauem nad tervena elavad ja seda me ju kõik peaksime soovima.

Karvkate oli tõeliselt suvine juhtum! Me kõik teame, et see võib olla sellisel aastaajal probleemiks. Kurb on see, et kui karvkatte kaotus on tõeliselt suur, siis mõjutab see muidu vaimustava koera tekitatavat üldmuljet. Ebameeldib ja isegi ebaõiglane, kuid elu on kord selline! Mõnel korral olin väga pettunud, kuna nägin kuldseid, kes nägid seistes vaimustavad välja, aga kui nad liikuma hakkasid, siis “kaotasid” nad oma seljajoone, kas küürutades seda nimme piirkonnas või oli saba asetus liialt madal liiga lühikese laudjaga, või oli õlgade taga tugev lohk. On hea, kui nutikas händler suudab koera edukalt ja selle häid külgi rõhutades sesima panna – just seetõttu on liikumine nii oluline: see näitab halastamatult kätte selle, milline koera ehitus tegelikult on. Nõndamoodi võib plusspunkte saada vähem eduka händleri koer, kui ta liigub hoogsalt, väärikalt ja tasakaalustatult.

Oli üsna kurb, et kolmel korral pidin diskvalifitseerima muidu tüüpilise ja hea välimusega koera, kuna tema iseloom oli soovimatu ja ebatüüpiline. Agressiivsus, ülemäärane argus või liialdatud närviline energia on tegelikult sama nähtuse kolm erinevat külge ja seda ei tohiks ükski kohtunik kunagi “andestada”, vähemalt mitte siis, kui püüdleme sama eesmärgi poole: säilitada kuldse retriiveri imeline iseloom.

Kõikides klassides oli tõeliselt väärikaid tõu esindajaid ning soovin teile edu edaspidises aretustöös. Tänan, et kutsusite mind – oli kuum, kuid vahva! Loodan, et kohtume kusagil veel…

Special Show for Golden Retrievers (C.A.C.) in Estonia July 26th, 2008:

Thank you for inviting me to this great event, a beautiful ground, lovely weather – but hot! It was a very enjoyable day and I saw really many good Goldens.

Congratulations on the very many good heads and expressions. Not all absolutely the same type, but with the soft and gentle expression, that is one of the most important features of the Golden Retriever. It should always be a mirror of the gentle and friendly nature of the breed.

Congratulations on the very many, especially younger dogs of excellent quality. A little differing in type, but a lot of them were in excellent condition with good muscle, not too much fat, and moving happily and naturally.

More surprising that the quality and condition in the older classes – intermediate, open, and working – was not so predominant, and several of these entries lost a lot of points to their lack of muscle, excessive fat, needing a lot more free exercise and much less calories. Veterans of 8, 9 and 10 years do not need to be fat, nor soft in muscle, the more fit they are, the older they get, which is hopefully what we all want.

Coats were a very special summer story! We all know it can be a problem at this time of year. Sadly, when the coat loss is really bad, it does affect the overall impression of an otherwise grand dog or bitch. Annoying, yes, maybe even unfair, but such is life! Quite a few times I was very disappointed, because I found several Goldens looking absolutely grand when stacked, however, on the move they failed seriously in topline, either crouching over the loin, the tailset being low with a much too short croup, or there was a serious dip behind the shoulders. It is good, when a clever handler can stack the dog successfully and to its advantage, however, that is whey the movement is so important: it reveals without mercy what the construction is really like. Likewise, a dog whose handler is maybe not so successful, gains a lot of points, if he moves with stride, poise and balance. It was sad that three times I had to hand out a qualification much lower than the dog deserved for his type and exterior, but because he or she showed an unwanted, untypical temperament.

Aggression, exaggerated shyness or exaggerated nervous energy is really three sides of the same thing, and should never be excused by a show or field trial judge. Not if we have the same aim: to preserve the wonderful temperament that Goldens should always possess. In all the classes I found really worthy representatives of the breed, and I wish you all the best of luck in your future breeding.

“Ostsin esimese kuldse retriiveri aastal 1965, vahendaja käest! Koer osutus väga paugukartlikuks ning tal oli tõsine puusadüsplaasia, kuid ta elas õnnelikult ja toimekalt 13 aastat.

1967 ostsin ma emase kutsika Anbris/Westley/Camrose liinidest – temast kasvas kaunis ja enesekindel koer ning temast sai minu kasvanduse alus. 1970 ostsime koos abikaasaga noore tööliini koera Holway Greenfoot Zipper, kellest tuli töötšempion. Temast sai alguse minu suur huvi kuldsete väljaõppe vastu – võin kinnitada, et tema õpetas meile rohkem kui meie temale!

Minu peamine huvi kuldsetes on aretus, hindamine ja näitused – just selles järjestuses, kuid ma poleks õnnelik, kui mu tegevus piirduks vaid koerte aretamise ja näitustel näitamisega; nende õpetamine ja koolitus on minu jaoks olulised. Just viimane tagab õnneliku ja vaimselt tasakaalus koera ning annab pildi tema mentaalsusest. Ilma selleta aga ei saa olla edukas aretustöös ega näitustel.

Minu esimene pesakond sündis 1968 ning aastate jooksul olen hoidnud oma liini. Olen sisse ostnud ja aretuses kasutanud koeri Crouchersi, Styali, Nortonwoodi, Gunhillsi ja Stenbury kasvandustest Inglismaalt ning mul on head aretussidemed Friendshipi ja Inassica kasvandustega Rootsis.

Ma sain õiguse hinnata retriivereid 1972, sellest ajast on lisandunud teisigi tõuge ning mul on olnud õnne hinnata väga paljudes maailma riikides. Välismaal hindamine on väga põnev. Minu viimane visiit Tallinna Eestis oli mõned aastad tagasi ja ma mul on hea meel teid kõiki jälle näha!

Marianne Holm-Hansen’s (Denmark, kennel Tallygold) self-presentation for the Club:

“I bought my first Golden Retriever in 1965 – from a dealer! She was terribly gunshy and had quite severe HD, but lived a happy and active life until she was 13 years old.

In 1967 I bought a bitch puppy, out of Anbria/Westley/Camrose lines. She was a lovely and sound bitch and became my foundation bitch, still being represented in my present Goldens.

In 1970 my husband and I bought a young Field Trial dog, Holway Greenfoot Zipper, who became F.T.Champion and was the beginning of a long life with a great interest in training Goldens. He certainly taught us more than we taught him!

My main interest in Golden Retrievers is breeding, judging and showing, in that order, but in my world there is no happy breeding or exhibiting without also training the dog. This makes him happy and mentally balanced and gives you a close and true realization of his or her mentality. Without this knowledge there can be no successful breeding – nor showing!

My first litter was born in 1968 and over the years I have stuck to the above bloodlines. I have imported and bred from several dogs from England, Crouchers, Styal, Nortonwood, Gunhills, and not least Stenbury, and from Sweden I have had a successful breeding contact with Friendship and Inassica Goldens.

I was authorized as a Retriever judge in 1972, since then several more breeds have been added to the list, and I have had the good fortune to judge in most countries. Judging abroad is always very interesting. My last visit to Estonia, Tallinn, is quite some years ago, and I look forward to seeing you all again.”
